Incarnational Communication

“No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made him known.” -John 1:18

Christmas opens the channels of communication with God and Humankind. God listens and speaks to us on our level by becoming the man Jesus Christ. God came to us not as some abstract idea or doctrine, but as a person, the babe, the son of Mary. Jesus was born to make what is eternal and finite come together. Jesus Christ does so by being both God and man. Because He is human, God has listened to us. Because He is God, He spoken to humankind.

God listened to us at Christmas. The birth of Christ is the event when God added our flesh and blood to his divinity. God knows what it is like to cry, to sleep, to laugh, to eat, and to smile. He is able to empathize with our frailty. God has listened to our laughter and our cries. He has smelled the sweet aroma of life and its rottenness. He has seen our beauty and brokenness not from afar but up-close. God has held us with human hands. When we go to God with our suffering, God is no stranger to it. Jesus, the God-man, is our blood brother who has tasted death for our sake.

God has spoken to us at Christmas. The word has become flesh and has dwelt among us. Whenever someone says they have difficulty talking about God, tell them if they can talk about Jesus they are talking about God. God is loving because Jesus is loving. God hates hypocrisy because Jesus hates hypocrisy. God is forgiving because Jesus forgave us on the Cross. Jesus reveals the Maker of Heaven and earth. When Jesus speaks, God has spoken!

The revelation of Christmas is in the The Armenian Christmas greeting, which goes, Քրիստոս ծնաւ եւ յայտնեցաւ  (Christ is born and revealed). The response, Ձեզի Մեզի Մեծ Աւետիս! (Good news to you and to us!).  This is amazing news because when we know the revelation of Christ we also know the reconciliation that Christ brings. Merry Revelation!
